Kindness connects us one to another on an emotional level. It says, “I value you” and “You’re important”. The simple act of kindness and empathy actively minimizes the “us versus them” mentality.
Each of us can practice a lifestyle of kindness at all times. This calls for intentional kindness – the act of seeking out opportunities to practice consideration and helpfulness to others, with no expectation of a reward. Intentional kindness describes a way of life that is focused daily on not only aiding others whenever the opportunity presents itself, but also seeking out and creating daily opportunities to be kind toward others. This may not always be easy. At times we will not feel kind, while at other times we may feel we need kindness from others. Act kind anyway. You never know how much your kindness can impact another’s day or life. Humans are above all social creatures who crave positive social interaction. Things do not make us happy – only positive experiences create happiness. Choose each day to help make others daily experience better. There is no such thing as a small act of kindness; all kind acts are important and big. Perhaps now more than ever the world needs every kind act.
You can choose every day to make someone’s day better, to change someone’s bad day into a good day, and in practice to help make America a better place each day.
